[Bug 582057] Re: [i915g] X Crashes After Resume from Suspend
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Since I upgraded to 10.04, X crashes after resuming from suspend or
hibernate. The crashes occur several minutes after resuming but not
immediately after I log back in. I have only noticed the problem when
the computer is in use (e.g. in the middle of browsing Firefox or
Thunderbird) but not when it sits idle.
At someone's suggestion in my Ubuntu Forums topic
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9227923#post9227923) I
disabled kernel modesetting per the official instructions
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting). This did not solve the
problem; if anything, it made the problem more predictable (X crashed
sooner after resuming) and more severe (instead of the "Video device
settings could not be detected correctly" error message, X simply cycled
between a console and various colorful screens). Because of this, I
undid the steps I took and restored them to default.
A typical interaction:
1.) Boot up computer and run without problems
2.) Suspend or hibernate
3.) Resume
4.) Open Firefox and browse for several minutes
5.) X crashes
6.) Reboot (from menu in low-graphics mode, console, or Alt+SysRq+reisub) to start a new X session
Let me know if I may provide any additional information.
