[Bug 669736] Re: During boot Ubuntu splash screen flashes ending with a blank screen, the CPU heating up and the fan racing; on a Dell Latitude C400.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

On my favourite (and only) little computer, a Dell Latitude C400, at
boot up the Ubuntu splash screen flashes then ends with an unresponsive
blank screen, the CPU heats up and the fan starts racing. This started
after an upgrade from Lubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and continued after a fresh
install of Ubuntu 10.10. Out of frustration, I attempted the following
fix that I was using in 10.04 for a similar problem with the computer
locking up and getting hot, but only when the lid was closed. With the
xorg file edit, the splash screen flashes a bit, but settles down to a
fully functioning system. I haven't tested closing the lid yet. Maybe
  after this bug report.
