[Bug 650860] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build

Looks like you ran into an glitch trying to install or update the fglrx
driver on your Lucid installation. Unfortunately, the necessary build
logs were not attached to this bug report, so we cannot analyze it.

While fglrx is a proprietary driver, it includes an open source kernel
driver wrapper to interface with the kernel. This chunk of code has to
be re-compiled for whatever version of kernel you have installed, at the
time of installation.

The most typical reason why this fails is a discrepancy between the
kernel version installed (or being installed) and the version(s)
supported by fglrx. Another common reason is something set up
incorrectly with the gcc compiler.

It appears one of these things happened when you encountered this bug;
however normally the errors are captured in log files and attached to
the bug report. Since this didn't happen in this case, we can't say for
certain what went wrong.

Hopefully you have already figured out a solution. If not, consider the
kernel version vs. fglrx version requirements and look for a compatible
combination.

If you need further help getting fglrx installed, I'd suggest looking to
one of the various technical support forums, such as
http://askubuntu.com.
