I think this may be the same thing I'm seeing, except when the menu
portion of the global menu bar gets corrupted, it is usually replaced by
some portion of my desktop.  Screenshot attached.

I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT with the binary driver version
270.41.06-0ubuntu1.
