I can provide some more details:
*Description*: screen freeze, no visible effect of any mouse/keyboard
action, no reaction to power button (should start shutdown). Only hard
reboot.

*Stepp/condition*: it was noticed in the following cases, each time 100%
reproducible:
1/ at KDM screen, CTRL+ALT+Fn action generates the issue
2/ at KDM screen, when logging in KDE, it starts loading, displays 2nd
icons "tools", and freeze
3/ when logging in fluxbox, when starting some applications, it freezes
on some actions:
- okular allows to view pdf, but saving file generates freeze
- virtualbox, when accessing 'Devices' in a VM menu
- gwenview, freeze when launching
4/ it has occured when booting in single mode as well

Extra info:
- CTRL+ALT+Fn works fine when in fluxbox
- I use my system daily without any other issues, main applications used
are: firefox, chromium, thundrbird, gimp, libreoffice, okular, fluxbox,
thunar, virtualbox, skype, netbeans, xterm, xsane, ...

I dont think it is related to X or KDE, but to a lower level layer,
maybe hal/dbus as it seems to occur on an access or an event. Is there a
way to start a kde application with debug info from xterm to try to have
more info ?

*regression*: this issue has been noticed 2x already on some updates,
and were solved after some other updates. Since I've reported it, it
still persists. So you say last working version was beginning of april.
I've upgraded to oneiric to check if an upgrade would not solve this
issue, without any success.

*backtrace*: no backtrace, no log, no dump identified
