I am not able to reproduce the problem. Can someone please provide the
output of:

$ valgrind /usr/lib/vlc/vlc-cache-gen /usr/lib/vlc/plugins -f

and of:

$ gdb --args /usr/lib/vlc/vlc-cache-gen /usr/lib/vlc/plugins -f
run
