[Bug 769911] Re: System freeze after login in 11.04
Yes this happened to me as well last night all of a sudden. No
resolution aside from logging in safe mode. Had been running 10.4 then
a few days ago upgraded to 10.10 then to 11.04 right after. Had no
trouble for a few days then it froze while playing EVE Online and
switching to another window that was running Firefox.
Lots of reboots and hacking around - still no luck. Tried reinstalling
the video driver via NVIDIA-Linux-256.53.run (same as I had before) but
now that fails to complete successfully. Ran it with --sanity and there
were various chksum mismatches. Tried the -uninstall and it said it
tried to uninstall what it could - reinstall still fails.
Went and marked all the NVidia related packages via Synaptic that were
already installed for reinstallation. Did nothing to help.
So I'm stuck installing EVE on my wife's iMac while I await a solution
to this annoying bug. Fortunately failsafe mode works for non-3D Gaming
related things so it's not totally disastrous.
