I'm experiencing this issue on a Lenovo U160 (Intel GMA HD) running Xubuntu 11.04 instantly after closing the lid. The lid close action is set to "do nothing". Afterwards I have to hard reboot.
Wrote this also in bug file #49521, but that's from 2006.
If I can do anything to trace the bug tell me.
