[Bug 794861] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup (EIR: 0x00000010 ESR: 0x00000011 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x01000000)
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
On a Sony VAIO VGN-NW13F laptop with a single on-board Intel video chip
and no external monitors running Lubuntu Natty amd64 in a Lubuntu
Desktop session, a GPU lockup was reported by Apport to have occurred.
This did not happen upon or shortly after login--I had logged on over 14
days previously, and the computer had not been hibernated or suspended
- in the intervening time. Therefore, while otherwise similar to bug
- 767475, this bug did not occur under similar circumstances. However,
- like in bug 767341, which is a duplicate of bug 767475, I was running
- VMware virtualization software when the crash occurred. Specifically, I
- was running VMware Workstation 7.1.4 build-385536, with a single virtual
- machine running. The virtual machine did not itself have graphics
- acceleration enabled, but I wouldn't expect that to be necessary for
- triggering this bug. Unlike bug 767341, I was not interacting with the
- virtual machine when the bug occurred, but I wouldn't expect that to be
- necessary either.
+ in the intervening time. Furthermore, the vesa video driver (with which
+ the i915 driver may have conflicted to produce this, had it been
+ running) was not loaded, according to the output of lsmod. Therefore,
+ while otherwise similar to bug 767475, this bug did not occur under
+ similar circumstances. However, like in bug 767341, which is a duplicate
+ of bug 767475, I was running VMware virtualization software when the
+ crash occurred. Specifically, I was running VMware Workstation 7.1.4
+ build-385536, with a single virtual machine running. The virtual machine
+ did not itself have graphics acceleration enabled, but I wouldn't expect
+ that to be necessary for triggering this bug. Unlike bug 767341, I was

+ wouldn't expect that to be necessary either.
I am filing this report in case, upon further inspection, there is
evidence that this is a separate bug, or valuable information not
present in other reports. I will probably mark this a duplicate of bug
767475 shortly, after more closely examining the information
automatically attached by Apport.
