No (at least, for me), because in the "please enter your password to
unlock" state closing the laptop screen doesn't cause netbook to sleep
(closing the laptop screen causes standby only when already logged in).
So, to make your laptop sleep after hibernation, you anyway should
somehow first log-in (and doing it in text-mode is IMO easier).

Anyway, nowadays hibernation seems to work fine for me.
