Re: [Bug 829334] Re: Xorg doesn't start after the update

That is what i was always doing!

After each kernel update i reinstalled the driver. The problem is that the updated kernel doesn't even boot anymore.
Or am i misunderstanding you explanations?

Subject: [Bug 829334] Re: Xorg doesn't start after the update

We don't support hand-installed upstream drivers. Ubuntu provides a
driver version for Nvidia, and it's the only version that's supported.

When you install the vendor driver by hand, the installation script
builds the module for the current kernel ABI version, so you need to
build a version for the new update. Or just purge the driver and use
what Ubuntu provides (with automatic kernel module builds etc).

Title:
Xorg doesn't start after the update

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Well, not sure if Xorg or not, but after i did an update (using security updates and recommended ones) the system would not boot into using the 2.6.38-11-generic linux kernel. I did a disk check and all was fine (from the recovery tool in grub). After the disk check finished it went to a "booting terminal" that stopped at "checking battery state". And that was that.
  2.6.38-10 works fine. I'm on a pc. I don't have a battery.
