[Bug 808654] Re: Failed to load session "ubuntu"
Ok, looks like I found a solution. For my situation at least. Hopefully
it will work for others also. I noticed that unity-2d had disappeared
from my session options, and my graphics card will only run unity-2d (if
I select "unity" it will normally log me in still, but to the 2d
desktop). After noticing that, I went to recovery console and ran:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure unity-2d
It gave me an error about the package being broken. Getting closer. I
then ran these two commands to purge and re-install unity-2d and it also
installed some other dependencies that were missing.
sudo dpkg -P unity-2d
sudo apt-get install unity-2d
So everyone try that, if you were running the 3d version previously it
probably will not help, but with both versions of unity sharing more and
more code, it is worth a try. Either way, this bug still needs to be
unmarked as a duplicate, it has nothing to do with that other bug, and
that is misleading.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 807306
