[Bug 846652] Re: Monitor screen misalignment and incorrect refresh rate when switching VTs and unsuspending
Run sudo xdiagnose and flip on graphics debugging messages (the first
checkbox), then reboot, reproduce the bug, and collect a fresh dmesg;
that may provide more details about what KMS thinks about the monitor's
modelines.
It looks like you upgraded to oneiric about 2 months ago; presumably
this issue only began recently? If this is the case, can you recall
roughly when you first noticed it?
This type of bug is often in the kernel drm layer; you can often verify
this hypothesis by booting some older (or newer) kernels. You might
still have some installed (-8 or -9 would be worth trying); you can get
into the boot menu by holding the left shift key during boot. Or if
not, you can obtain mainline snapshot kernels (which should be
sufficient for testing purposes) at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/.
We also recently uploaded the 1.10.4 X server, which was principally a
debug release, but if this behavior only started since yesterday, it's
possible you discovered a regression in that. There weren't really very
many changes there compared with what was in previously, but due to the
timing it should be included in the suspects list.
