This is indeed very serious and should be fixed asap. Imagine you are
working on an document, leave the application open and suspend your
machine. Then you come back and the desktop is no longer accessible
because you simply cannot see where to click. How can you try and save
that doc to, lets say, another drive when you cannot see anything?

If the only workaround is to exit the session and restart lightdm, then
log in again, your work is lost...
