I can confirm it has happened today off 2.6.31-4-generic #23-Ubuntu
( linux-image-2.6.31-4-generic 2.6.31-4.23 )
which I believe is based off rc4.
One observation is that I actually saw the display go into this mirrored
mode during the hibernate process. When I hit the hibernate button I saw
a notification saying the networking was down, then the screen flashed and
after the flash it was in this hibernated view and then after the customary
disk IO it went to sleep.
The X server version this week is:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1 X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver
(I rebooted after doing an update yesterday and then hibernated last
night).
