For new hardware like i7-2600 you will need to be using Ubuntu version
11.04 or later to use the on-board graphics. I use 11.04 on an i7-2600
too. Although your kernel is new enough to support i7-2600 graphics, the
version of Xorg (package xserver-xorg-video-intel) in Ubuntu 10.04 is
too old.

Ubuntu 11.10 has even better support for i7-2600 graphics, and will be
released in less than 2 weeks.

Also, the old Ubuntu 10.04 release you are using has old nvidia drivers
that probably won't support any new nvidia graphics chips. That's
another reason why you would need to upgrade to a newer Ubuntu release.
