[Bug 822486] [NEW] Mouse and keyboard no longer work after upgrading to 11.04

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This computer worked perfectly with 10.10.

After upgrading to 11.04 today the mouse and keyboard no longer work.
At the login screen, I am unable to do anything: Holding SHIFT or ESC
during boot does not bring up the GRUB menu; Ctrl-Alt-Fn does not switch
to a terminal; nothing works. Plugging them into different USB slots
doesn't work.

However, I am typing this with no problem from the Live CD, so I know it
is not a hardware problem. Also the keyboard works fine in the BIOS
settings screens. But once the kernel boots, not even the Caps Lock
light works.

Comparing (what I believe to be) relevant files between what's on my
hard drive and what this Live CD is using reveals no interesting
differences.

I have found other reports of this problem (e.g.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11129795) but did not find any
relevant bug reports or solution anywhere.
