[Bug 811298] [NEW] Installing ATI fglrx drivers fails and system cannot boot

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Tried to install fglrx drivers but installation fails. jockey.log is
attached.

After installation fails I rebooted as required, but system cannot boot
anymore. I only get a black screen. Tried with kernel linux-
image-2.6.39-020639rc7-generic and linux-image-2.6.38-02063806-generic
(current kernel version linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic is not working on
my system). None of these worked. Tried with recovery mode but the
system does not boot as well and remains stuck during "unpacking
initramfs".

To fix this I had to set kernel parameter nomodeset and uninstall fglrx
manually. After that the system is restored.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
