I have actually found with some experimentation that switching
(completely) from compiz to metacity as my windows manager actually
resolved the issue completely. I can now resume my computer from either
state with no graphical errors or any other issues of any kind. Either
this is a very effective work around, or the graphical driver is not the
issue. Just trying to be thorough.
