[Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
This worked for me on a configuration with fglrx installed:
1.Download the current ATI driver here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx
2. Build the driver in terminal and download directory with: sh ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg
3. Remove the installed fglrx: sudo apt-get purge fglrx fglrx-amdcccle
4. Install the new driver packages by double clicking on the before built debs.
5. Make sure that the driver is installed: dpkg -l fglrx*
6. Restart
7. Check with: fglrxinfo
Normally it is recommended to execute but I did not do: sudo aticonfig --initial
This writes the xorg configuration
If you wish to change back to the normal fglrx:
sudo apt-get purge fglrx fglrx-amdcccle
sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle
