** Description changed:

  PC running 11.10.  Problem started as soon as upgrade was complete.

+ The mouse pointer is invisible everywhere on screen. Sometimes, when the
+ region it's in requires a different pointer than the default arrow
+ (pointing finger, I-beam, etc), it will be visible, and on-screen
+ objects always react to the presence of the mouse pointer, even when it
+ can't be seen.

+ The mouse pointer has disappeared ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10.
+ It's very frustrating that every attempt at using the mouse to navigate
+ within this website or within the windowed environment is a matter of
+ educated guesswork, since I can't see where I'm pointing the mouse.

+ To my mind, describing the mouse pointer as invisible captures the
+ elements of the problem in one word. It's not that it doesn't exist,
