[Bug 598879] Re: Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 865097 ***
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865097

Apologies for not explaining why I did that. This bug is missing
detailed apport system information requested by Bryce on 2011-10-19.
This info normally gets attached when you log a bug using the ubuntu-bug
command.

Because the info was missing here, but present in bug 865097 along with
a simpler description, I decided to make 865097 the main bug.

In hindsight it was not necessary and with some effort I could have put
the required info into this bug. However today I notice bug 865097 has
been triaged by the kernel team so it's best to leave it that way rather
than reverse the duplicate pointers.

The good news is that yesterday I noticed the bug is fixed in kernel 3.1
onward, at least for me. If you are using Ubuntu 11.10 already then you
can try the fix by installing this kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.1-oneiric/

If it works for you then please put further comments in bug 865097. If
not then please comment here.
