[Bug 854206] Re: no desktop login, just console. xorg Matrox MGA driver fails to initialize
I wonder if it is a PCI library bug rather than the graphics driver. Can you also give the output from the working 10.04.3 release? Use this to limit the info to the graphics card:

Essentially, I was able to run 10.04 and 10.10 just fine, but when I
upgraded to 11.04 the login screen never appeared. I noticed that some
nvidia folks have the same issue. More details here:
