Message #148898
[Bug 898963] [NEW] Desktop performance (2d) much worse than expected.
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I have an AMD Radeon HD 6450 (512mb) GPU. On the live USB of the 12.04
Alpha 1, the performance is very poor. There is obvious window lag when
dragging them, and lots of hiccups when scrolling (smooth scrolling on
Firefox is horrible). Videos play as expected (YouTube + HTML5) and
games work as expected (Minecraft). The overall performance of the
desktop is laggy and not smooth at all.
If I grab a window and throw the cursor to the top of the screen, the
window moves up too far. This causes the grab animation to be shown in
the wrong place (about two centimetres above the grabbed area).
The open source Radeon driver should work perfectly for 2D. This problem
is not present in Fedora 16. It happens on both the "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu
2d" sessions.
