Message #148981
[Bug 899054] Re: nvidia-173 173.14.30-0ubuntu8: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build
This is basically a dupe of bug #576648. However, since that bug has a
large number of dupes and is relatively old, we can leave this bug
report open for investigating this in precise for now.
** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Confirmed
** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Triaged
** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => High
** Summary changed:
- nvidia-173 173.14.30-0ubuntu8: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build
+ nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build (UNable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)
** Summary changed:
- nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build (UNable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)
+ nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version - like bug 576648)
** Description changed:
+ (This is an instance of bug #576648. Please do not dupe these two bugs
+ (yet), the old one has so many dupes it is timing out, and this report
+ has useful logs on it.)
+
+ This problem comes about due to bug #897681 in jockey, where it selects
+ to install -173 when it should be installing -current. This report
+ focuses only on the build troubles for 173.

DKMS make.log for nvidia-173-173.14.30 for kernel 3.2.0-2-generic (i686)

If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.
If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.
Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the
kernel headers) were installed, you may need to specify
their location with the SYSSRC environment variable or
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.
