Same problem on Xubuntu 11.10. Live-CD didn't show any graphics, so I
installed with the alternate CD, hoping for additional drivers.
Installation and boot went well. Since it's a dual boot, Grub show up.
But when I reached the log in screen the brightness was set to minimum
and I couldn't change it.

My computer is a new HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC with Sandy Bridge.
