[Bug 415011] [NEW] Please update ATI proprietary drivers to 9.8 on Jaunty
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Please update ATI proprietary drivers to 9.8 on Jaunty (at least).
Problem:
* At least Kubuntu with ATI graphics card suffers from a great deal of problems. The desktop performance is terrible at best on most configurations with ATI. And the opensource drivers are no use either.
* Kubuntu Jaunty dual screen configuration requires an experienced rocket scientist
* Current drivers (fgrlx) crash on video playback for example
Solution:
* Update ATI proprietary drivers to 9.8
Pros:
* People after installing Kubuntu and getting the propriety drivers with Jockey could actually get a working system!
* "Ubuntu 9.04 production support" is one of the new things in 9.8
* ATI Catalyst™ Control Center - Linux Edition now supports XRANDR 1.2 and dual screen configuring
* Everything would work (at least for the newer ATI cards, but the older ones didn't work anyway)
** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
