[Bug 410512] [NEW] "display settings" not working after ati's proprietary driver installation

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Release: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope AMD64
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 7750
VGA: Radeon HD4850

hello,

after installing the ATI's proprietary display driver (i don't know what
version, but the one ubuntu suggested me today), if i try to open
"display settings" (system -> preferences) it freeze, saturates the CPU
(one core alternately, it switches) and make the entire system very
slow.

i have to close it and wait some minutes to have back my system, so i
can't change important settings like refresh rate.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
