I think I bumped into the same bug when conncecting freenx server on
Jaunty from nx client elsewhere.

$ glxinfo -display :1001
name of display: :1001.0
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":1001.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

$ xdpyinfo -display :1001 | grep GLX
    GLX
    SGI-GLX

ssh forwarded glx returns "Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig" against older servers
