I have the same problem here. Everything with DRI is affected by it, RuneScape, Wine, some times compiz, etc
Files already have gid 44, but they are being recreated at the boot time, and I think they are blank.  I'm attaching ls -l output of them. I'm using Karmic Alpha.

I heard I need to create a file, /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules, with
this content:

###################/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules############

KERNEL=="nvidia*", NAME="%k", GROUP="video"

##############end of /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules ############
