[Bug 419837] [NEW] Aspect ratio stretched on Sync Master 2033ws Samsung monitor

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This monitor requires 1600 x 900 but is showing full screen on 1024 x 768 as is the driver info from NVidia as downloaded and re-down-loaded for the GeForce 9400GT video card. This NVidia driver is the 180.44 version.
The problem is that the photographs appear stretched wide, however not all photos are of wide smiley faces!
There is not the provision for 1600 x 900 resolution even though my system is fully updated, this resolution screen has been available from a number of manufacturers for about a year now, and I am running the latest downloaded and up-dated version of the desktop 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9-04. I am also running a number of other Microsoft boxes through the KVM at 1600 x 900 resolution ok, so the problem does not rest with the KVM.

I expected all to work perfectly because of my past great experiences
with Ubuntu products.

Other than my viewing the screen side-on, or my turfing the video card
and buying another, what are my options?

In the unlikely event that I need to buy another video card, which ones
would you recommend?
