[Bug 361596] Re: [HD 4890] X server does not start up

i took out one of my 4890 card, cause i was running crossfire on vista
at the time, because the last test was giving me the same error. and
replaced the computer with a new HD so not to touch anything on the
original HD. i put in the live cd and installed it right away, (i have
also checked the disc for errors and none were found). well i rebooted
the computer as it requests after the installation, and upon boot up,
not no GUI, and i received this error:

/dev/sda1: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
      (i.e., without -a or -p options)
fsck died with exit status 4

[fail]

* An automatic file system check (fsck) of the root filesystem failed.
A manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted.
The fsck should be performed in maintenance mode with the
root filesystem mounted in read-only mode.

* The root filesystem is currently mounted in read-only mode.
A maintenance shell will now be started.
After performing system maintenance, press CONTROL-D
to terminate the maintenance shell and restart the system

so i typed in "fsck" in the command line.
then received this:

fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16
e2fsck 1.41.9 (22-Aug-2009)
Superblock last mount time (Sun Sep 13 22:29:56 2009,
now = Sun Sep 13 15:49:30 2009) is in thefuture.
Fix<y>?

then i press "y"

/dev/sda1 conains a file system with errors, check forced.
pass 1: checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
pass 2: checking directory structure
pass 3: checking reference connectivity
pass 4: checking reference counts
pass 5: checking group summary informaion

/dev/sda1: ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
/dev/sda1: ***** REBOT LINUX *****
/dev/sda1: 118592/9371648 files (0.1% non-contiguous), 1151259/37475620 blocks

now i restarted the computer.

once it restarted it went to the screen before the desktop load, i
turned on automatic login so i dont think id call it a log in screen
where it says ubuntu and the screen goes black for a second, and then
goes back, its has a couple of white stripes moving in a vertical
direction (not glitches but the visual effects for loading) im sure you
have seen working on 9.10, but it never loads the desktop. but! ive put
the cd in another computer that is about 3 years old and all the
hardware is supported just fine in 9.04 so im thinking it might just be
the disc, even though it said there was no errors.

what im going to do is download and burn another 9.10.

so all and all, i took out 1 of the 2 4890 GPU's and got some what of a
installation and loading screen GUI (that was in a correct resolution),
so xserver started i guess. only problem was that file system error.

ill burn another live cd and come back with another update on what happened to make sure nothing is wrong with the cd.

please let me know if there is anything else i should be doing.
