Same here under Xubuntu 9.10 Alpha.

root@schlepptop:~/Desktop# nvidia-settings

VALIDATION ERROR:  Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default Screen".

Segmentation fault (Speicherabzug geschrieben)

I will try the workaround described by Shang Wu.
