[Bug 436695] [NEW] Nvidia driver update broke experience

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am not sure how to file this, or what additional information might be
helpful, if you have something you'd like to see, let me know where it
is or how to get the info and I'll happily provide it.

I've been running Karmic on my laptop (Since alpha 6), which has a
nvidia video card. I had encountered no problems, until I decided to
enable the nvidia drivers using the hardware drivers launcher from the
menu. (Chose the recommended option, I believe it was something like
183?).

Upon reboot, the desktop appears to start up fine, but many things do not work as they should now.
Examples:
1) If i click and drag on the desktop, I do not get any selection indication
2) Clicking GNOME application menu opens the menu, but they open with a flicker (looks almost like it is trying to fade in, but runs like 2 fps), and expand extremely slowly.
3) Most widgets inside windows will not gain focus (i can't type into a terminal window) but I can click exit buttons etc.

I will happily help track down this issue if someone can walk me through
what they need. It is also worth noting that I have run effects with no
problem on the machine in previous releases, in case that is relevant.

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
