The kernel fix referred to above is now available in Karmic:

linux (2.6.31-12.39) karmic;
* agp/intel: Fix the pre-9xx chipset flush.

Please update your kernel to linux-image-2.6.31-12-generic and test.
There are already several confirmations this new kernel solves the
issue.
