[Bug 404076] [NEW] some applications (QT based??) cause display corruption in gnome

Sometimes (but not every time) I get display corruption when running either virtualbox or calibre.
my display will get very dim and the color resolution seems to drop to 16 colors. my display is unusable.

if I close the program or bring another window to the foreground the display goes back to normal.
Someone else suggested it may be related to using QT libraries in  gnome.

Ubuntu 9.10 karmic
gnome 2.27.4
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
Thinkpad T43 with ATI x300 graphics card (ubuntu regular drivers)
