Hello ghysmodos,

I had this problem too with the 2.6.28 kernel.

I upgraded to a newer kernel (2.6.30 at least) and followed this guide to enable kernel modesetting:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting   (Configuring KMS on Jaunty part)

This solved the problem for me.
