[Bug 412452] Re: Cannot Maximize windows (nvidia driver)
** Description changed:
I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 a number of times and this is the first I
can say that I have ever seen this. After initial install I received
the prompt about hardware drivers available and I enabled the nvidia
proprietary driver, version 180 recommended. Rebooted and everything
looked ok until I tried to Maximize a window. I cannot really describe
accurately what happened other than the system became unusable. Only
part of the application window was drawn at maximum size, and the
mouse/keyboard didn't work correctly - I could still see the mouse move,
but clicking had no effect anywhere. Rebooted a couple times and tried
different applications (Firefox, terminal, gnome settings applications,
etc) all with same effect. Only way to get out was to press the power
button to initiate a shutdown. When this was pressed could see part of
the shutdown prompt window, but not the entire thing.
Tried all other window operations, dragging, moving, resizing via drag,
minimize - all had zero issues.
Tried to downgrade the nvidia driver to version 173 - rebooted - this
time when maximizing a window the system at least is still usable (I can
move the mouse around and it responds to clicks and can use it to close
the window) - BUT there are still issues. For example if I maximize a
Terminal window - the prompt disappears and I cannot type. If I click
the maximize box again to return to original size, able to see prompt
and use the window. If I maximize a window (e.g. Firefox), close it,
then click the icon to start it again, it attempts to start Maximized
and is not functional (cannot highlight address to type in new URL)
The monitor is an Acer H233H - resolution set to Automatic (1920x1080
used)
I'm going to try to disable the proprietary drivers to see if the nv
driver has better results (assuming it's available).
System is 9.04 release with latest updates applied. I've attached
xorg.conf, a hwinfo report and the results of lspci -vv. Please let me
know what else would be helpful - I will try to get a couple screen
snapshots if I can.
Should I also try building the latest nvidia driver from nvidia.com?
Thank you,
Josh
