What component is responsible for calibrating the screen brightness
then? This IMHO is an important issue, it makes Ubuntu look absolutely
useless to average consumers, no average person would ever guess that
they have to right click something to stop this insane flickering.

I have an up to date system, and I even reinstalled Ubuntu using the
Beta CD image, to make sure, that the problem is not some upgrade
problem, this even happens on a live CD session.
