[Bug 449202] Re: Blank screen on bootup, karmic, nvidia card

I have two 19" LCD monitors attached by VGA (with DVI adaptors). I tried
to boot into the daily live as well, and got the same problem I was
having with the desktop, just ending up with a blank screen.

I tried to re-install the drivers using Hardware Drivers, and was then
able to use nvidia-settings to setup dual-monitors, but I cannot save
the new configuration to xorg (I get error: Failed to parse existing X
config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'). Also I still cannot get 3D support.

Also, if no graphics drivers are installed, I only boot into a flashing
TTY screen. Which is impossible to use, because it flashes rapidly and
doesn't respond well to typing. I had to boot into recovery mode, use
telinit 3, then install drivers from there. (this doesn't work anymore
since this problem started.)

Lastly, holding down ctrl+alt+del will restart the PC if the screen goes
blank, so it is still responsive, but for some reason unable to open the
display.

A new xorg.conf was generated when I installed the drivers from Hardware
Drivers. Attached it to this comment:
