More simple (because there is not enough time remaining for karmic), just provide an OPTIONAL package in repositories.
This way, there will be no problem with intel/nvidia users.

An other (temporally) solution may be to set up a ppa with the patched
xorg → it will be easier than patching/compiling for average users).
