Ah, that's a different question...
Regarding Karmic and nvidia-173.14.20, no I have never used the basic
nvidia installer. I have only used aptitude and synaptic.
I think when I first installed kubuntu 9.04 on my machine back in May I
had some nvidia problems and I tried several things to get the driver
(which was 173.14.17 or 173.14.18 at the time) working. I can't
remember specifically, but I may have tried the nvidia installer at that
time (or used some driver manager that used it for me). But again, with
Karmic, nothing but aptitude.
