I too have the same issue. After reading this thread. I killed compiz. I
too see that keyboard is not working at all.

mine one has ATI card and I am using proprietary driver. I have Asum M3A78-EM mobo with  	AMD 780G / AMD SB700 chipset.
It will be nice if keyboard also works. What exactly happens, when you kill compiz ?
