After log into the desktop, compiz was disabled by default, and the
display was fine, with no color stripes. I can manually start compiz by
Appearence> Visual Effects> normal. I can see visual effects like
shadows start. However, when I open apps like gnome-terminal or firefox,
the visual effects switch back to 'None', compiz seems broken. And I
start to find there are some black/green/red color stripes appeared on
the screen, and the menu bar, task bar were displayed bad. As I use it
longer time, the text display was unclear too, some letter may missing,
some displayed half. But at any time, I can switch to the text console
by ctrl-alt-F1 and the console display is fine at high resolution.

I find this line in ~/.xsession-errors, which may help:

WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX
1.3 is not supported!  This is an application bug!
