So, retried with updated Karmic (2009-10-31 13:00 CET), xorg.edgers,
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.0 (2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2), mainline kernel
(2.6.32-020632rc5-generic). Still hanging, though now I get a complete
system lockup when trying to read from
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_regs.

I have attached a complete archive, since I don't know what will be
needed. If needed, I can also upload this at freedesktop.org.
