Thanks for the reference to the upstream patch in comment #5, it's most
helpful. Unfortunately, I don't believe the patch will qualify for an
SRU for Karmic, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
Additionally, the Ubuntu kernel team has modified it's SRU policy such
that patches applied as a Stable Release Update to the kernel should
come by means of the upstream stable tree. Based on this, I'm going to
decline the Karmic nomination but keep this bug open for Lucid. Also as
an interim solution, you could choose to run the 2.6.31-rc1 mainline
kernel build:
