Bug sorted!
The kernel update prior to the Karmic upgrade sorted out the graphic
corruption issue I was experiencing.
A big thanks to Bryce and Alan for helping me out with it.

Actually, I'm fairly certain this is solved in Karmic. Still, please
re-test and open a new bug using 'ubuntu-bug xorg' if the issue still
exists there.
