Message #32458
[Bug 464591] Re: upgrade breaks graphic drivers and x, preventing login or startx
I had a similar issue, but now have 9.10 running smoothly.
It seems that the upgrade process disables all proprietary drivers, but
does so without updating xorg.conf to use the default non-proprietary
drivers.
All I did to fix this was login via a rescue shell, edit xorg.conf so
that nothing was listed in the "Device" section. hal recgnised my
hardware and I could boot normally (of course my twinview was now
broken). I installed the proprietary driver and reverted to my old
xorg.conf - no issues.
The fix - just search xorg.conf for proprietary drivers and edit
accordingly - can probably be included in the uprage sequesnce quite
easily.
