[Bug 466310] Re: [i845G] X freezes randomly. mouse pointer moves but nothing happens on cliking.
First after upgrade to 9.10 the screen sometimes froze with the mouse
pointer still moving. Sometimes there where dense white and black
horizontal lines across the entire screen hiding everything.
Finally after a few reboots from remote session "putty" login from
another computer the screen activity stoped at "init crypto disks [OK]"
Issuing "lspci -nn | grep VGA" reveals the following about my hardware:
=============
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]:
Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/
GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 01)
=============
Followed the instructions at
"https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4" to
revert to an earlier driver and rebooted again.
Now the 9.10 desktop works again!!!
