[Bug 360531] Re: [VM800] 9.04 Screen resolution on Via Epia LN card is to low

I installed the openchrome driver, just for testing (didn't enable debug, sorry) and got the same resolution, but it seemed to me a bit more sharp - but that's not what I wanted.
To get the system running in a way I can use it, I got those:
http://linux.via.com.tw/support/beginDownload.action?eleid=345&fid=646
It is a stable version of the 3D-GFX driver ans Harald Welte works now for VIA, so their drivers should work fine now.
So do this:
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg (only needes if you have no /etx/X11/xorg.conf yet)

tar xvf <filename>.tgz <-! It is not Gzipped!
sudo ./vinstall
The xorg.conf will be altered, but your previous one was renamed, so if anything goes wrong, open a text-shell and you can swap those two configuration files.
Just log out and log in and it should work fine, rebooting is not needed (VIA programmers should know that linux has no rebootive multitasking)

Kind regards,
Steffen

PS: The bug should't be closed or needs to be reopened, because the
Openchrome driver does not work. But I think Harals Welte will do it
soon.
